OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) - The SUNY College at
Old Westbury women's volleyball dropped a 3-1 decision to St.
Joseph's College-L.I. in a Skyline Conference showdown at the Clark
Athletic Center on Thursday evening. The loss moved Old
Westbury to 4-13 on the season and 0-4 in conference action while
the Golden Eagles improve to 10-6 and 3-0, respectively.
Sophomore Kristina Giordano (Huntington Station, NY) led the
hitters with a .500 hitting percentage finishing with 10 kills in
20 total attempts. Finishing second for the Panthers was
junior Ashley Greene (Bay Shore, NY) who compiled eight total kills
but suffered five hitting errors. Giordano finished with 22
assists, eight digs, three service aces and two total blocks.
Defensively, sophomore Tynishia George (Medford, NY) led the
Panthers along with one other Panther with double digit
digs. She finished with 14 digs total, while freshman Katrina Zapanta (Astoria, NY) finished with 11 digs. Sophomore Tonya Miller (Nyack, NY) led Old Westbury's blocking efforts with
three blocks and two blocking assists.
As a team, Old Westbury hit .155 with 37 total kills and 21
errors in 103 total attacks. Old Westbury's best hitting came
in the first set with 11 kills and four errors in 22 total attacks
for .318 hitting percentage.
SARAH LAWRENCE AND MEDGAR EVERS NEXT FOR THE
PANTHERS: Old Westbury will host Sarah Lawrence and Medgar
Evers on Saturday, October 3rd for a tri-match.
