THROGS NECK, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) - The SUNY College at
Old Westbury women's soccer team were lifted to 3-0 Skyline
Conference victory over the Maritime Privateers with goals scored
by sophomore Cassandra Esposito (Valley Stream, NY), junior Tiffany Lester (Bellport, NY) and senior Jessica Manning (Carle Place, NY)
on Wednesday evening at Reinhart Field in Throgs Neck, New
York. With the win, Old Westbury improves to 5-6-1 overall
and 4-3 in conference action while Maritime falls to 6-7-1 and 1-5
respectively.
Old Westbury carried a 2-0 lead into the halftime break after
Esposito's and Lester's goals. Esposito put Old Westbury on
the board first at 31:07 when she settled a pass from junior
Melissa Romero (Huntington, NY) to notch her team-leading
13th goal of the season. Moments later at 36:32,
Lester doubled the advantage off a free kick from senior Marie LaMaida (New Hyde Park, NY) to score her second goal of the season.
Senior Jessica Manning (Carle Place, NU) added to the
lead at the 88:03 mark with her first goal of the season.
The shutout was the third of the season for sophomore Jennifer Kupfer (Bellmore, NY), who now owns the single-season individual
record for shutouts. Kupfer made three stops in between the
pipes while freshman Courtney Marietta (Grantville, PA) had nine
for the Privateers. Old Westbury outshot Maritime, 17-7 while
the Privateers tallied four corner kicks to Old Westbury's
two.
STATEN ISLAND NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old
Westbury will take on the Staten Island Dolphins in a
non-conference battle at Panther Park on Saturday, October
17th. Kick-off is slated for 12:30 p.m.
