OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) - The SUNY College at
Old Westbury took a 1-0 lead into halftime but could not hang on,
giving up a goal in the final minutes of regulation to send the
game into overtime where the Union Dutchmen came up with a 2-1
victory on Saturday afternoon at Panther Park. With the loss
the Panthers fall to 7-7-1 on the season while Union improves to
9-3-1.
The Panthers earned an early one goal lead but saw it slip away
in the 61st minute. Junior Victor Farfan (Bay
Shore, NY) started things off for the Panthers with a goal in the
22nd minute of play off a pass from classmate Scott Madocks (East Islip, NY) to give Old Westbury a one goal
lead. The Panthers carried the one goal lead until the 60:41
mark when Union erased the lead. The Dutchmen put their first
goal of the game on the board when sophomore Kevin Giron
(Barrington, RI) found senior Brendan Steiner (Madison, CT) to knot
the game at one.
After no goals were scored overt the final 29 minutes of
regulation, the Panthers entered into their fourth overtime match
of the season. Union rallied and put their second goal on the
board handing the Panthers the loss with a score by senior Jack
Scott (Huntington, NY) on a pass from classmate Ryan Banagan
(Albany, NY) in the final seconds of the first overtime.
Union dominated Old Westbury in the shot column taking 28 to Old
Westbury's eight. Sophomore William Montenegro (Brentwood,
NY) saved five shots on the afternoon while sophomore Mike
Szczesniak (Armonk, NY) had six stops in a winning effort for the
Dutchmen.
