OCTOBER 3, 2009

Old Westbury at St. Joseph's-L.I. Boxscore

CENTEREACH, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team allowed a hat trick by St. Joseph's-L.I. freshman Craig Ceruti (Shoreham, NY) as the Golden Eagles blanked the Panthers by a 4-0 final at Centereach Fields in Centereach.  The loss drops Old Westbury to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in Skyline Conference action while the Golden Eagles improve to 4-7 and 2-0, respectively.

St. Joseph's-L.I. came out of the gates ready to attack, putting in a quick goal at the 5:04 mark.  Craig Ceruti started the offense for the Golden Eagles, scoring what would be the game winner off a rebound.  Freshman John Dettori (Bay Shore, NY) closed out the scoring for the first half with a goal at 27:28 off a feed from senior Adam Rodgers (Hauppauge, NY) to double the advantage.  Ceruti saw the scoreboard light up again for the Golden Eagles at the 63:55 mark.  Ceruti's second goal registered a three goal advantage due in part to assists by John Dettori and freshman William Kuhlwilm (West Islip, NY).  St. Joseph's-L.I. put its final notch on the scoreboard at 71:50 with a third goal by Ceruti, putting the game out of Old Westbury's reach.

St. Joseph's-L.I. went on to outshoot the Panthers by a margin on 30-13 and held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.  Senior Fabian Santibanez (Oyster Bay, NY) and freshman Mathais Coni (Oceanside, NY) led the Panthers, each firing three shots on target.

Senior Michael Dougherty (Farmingville, NY) was forced to make 10 stops for the Golden Eagles to preserve his second shutout of the season.  For the Panthers, junior Darian Bryan (Elmont, NY) allowed four goals and stopped 16 shots in over 75 minutes of action before sophomore William Montenegro (Brentwood, NY) registered two saves to close out the game.

NYU-POLY NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury will take on the Fighting Blue Jays  of NYU-Poly for a Skyline Conference showdown on Tuesday, October 6th at Panther Park.   Kick-off is slated for 4 p.m.  Please visit www.oldwestburypanthers.com for more information on men's soccer or any of the other Panther athletic teams.
