OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) - Junior Ugur Kahveci
(West Babylon, NY) of the SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer
team proved to be the difference as the Panthers posted a 2-1
overtime win over NYU-Poly on Tuesday evening at Panther
Park. With the win, Old Westbury improves to 7-5 on the
season and 3-1 in Skyline Conference action while the Fighting Blue
Jays fall to 5-7 and 1-2, respectively.
Kahveci , put home the game winner at the 95:03. Senior
Edwin Mejia (Uniondale, NY) sent a cross from the right side to
Kahveci, who sent a header to the back of the net, beating the
keeper for his first goal of the season.
Freshman Bryan Orozco (North Babylon, NY) put Old Westbury on
the board in the 37th minute, getting on the end of a
pass by Edwin Mejia for a 1-0 Old Westbury lead. It was
Orozco's second goal of the season.
Just when it looked like the Panthers had the game in hand,
NYU-Poly's sophomore Joe Gabor (Warwick, NY) sent a free kick past
the outstretched hands of Old Westbury freshman keeper Jonathan Aiola (Plainview, NY) to tie the game at 1-1 in the 67th
minute.
Old Westbury goalkeeper Jonathan Aiola recorded one save between
the pipes. NYU-Poly senior goalkeeper Rob Petri stopped five
shots and allowed two goals in a losing effort.
The shot tally was decidedly in the Panthers' favor with a 22-7
advantage. Kahveci had four of those shots, two of which were
on frame. Old Westbury also led in the corner kick
department, 6-5.

take on the Cougars of Kean College in a non-conference battle on
Saturday, October 10th at Kean Alumni Stadium.
