PANTHERS LOSE TO WILLIAM PATERSON IN FIRST ROUND OF ECAC TOURNEY

WAYNE, NJ (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury allowed four unanswered goals, two of which came within a span of 1:48 in the first half, en route to a 4-0 defeat by the William Paterson Pioneers (11-7-3) in the first round of the ECAC Women's Soccer Metro Region Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at Pioneer Soccer Park.  The loss brought down the curtain on one of the most successful seasons in Panther women's soccer history.  The Panthers finished their season with an 8-9-2 record. 

The scoring began at the 10:54 mark when the Pioneers took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by freshman Michelle Marabondo (Kenville, NJ).  Marabondo took a pass from junior Kathleen Maggi (New Milford, NY) and beat Old Westbury's sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Kupfer (Bellmore, NY) for the first goal of the game.  

Sophomore Ashley Grabowski (Woodbridge, NJ) doubled the Pioneer advantage with a penalty kick score at 33:54.  Moments later at 35:42, sophomore Megan Droelle (Hampton, NJ) hooked up with Michelle Marabondo for the Pioneers' third score and Marabondo's second of the match.  Finally, at the 50:24 mark, William Paterson's Michelle Marabondo scored her third goal to put the game out of reach.  Kathleen Maggi was credited with the assist, giving William Paterson a 4-0 cushion. 

Old Westbury's Jennifer Kupfer made 12 stops over 90 minutes in between the pipes.  Senior Meaghan Baker (Rockaway, NJ) made one save and teamed up with freshman Erin Wynder (Milford, NJ) to combine fore the shutout.  William Paterson, which outshot the Panthers, 26-2, had 16 shots on goal to Old Westbury's one.  William Paterson also held a 9-1 advantage in the corner. 

Six seniors played in their final contest as Panthers:  Sherry Buxo (Brooklyn, NY), Jennifer Campisi (Commack, NY), Courtney Dixon (Baldwin, NY), Marie LaMaida (New Hyde Park, NY), Jessica Manning (Carle Place, NY). Mikele Reitmayr (Wantagh, NY).
