PANTHERS FACE FARMINGDALE STATE IN SKYLINE CONFERENCE SEMIFINAL FRIDAY

PANTHERS FACE FARMINGDALE STATE IN SKYLINE CONFERENCE SEMIFINAL FRIDAY

NOVEMBER 5, 2009

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team will battle the Farmingdale State Rams for the rights to advance to the Skyline Conference Championship game at 2 p.m. on Friday at Rams Field in Farmingdale, New York.

The Panthers, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, will face the second-seeded Rams in the semifinals, with the winner heading to the championship game Sunday against either St. Joseph's-L.I. or NYU-Poly.

Old Westbury, which advances to the semifinals for the third consecutive season, defeated Bard for the second straight season in the quarterfinals.  Sophomore German Parodis (Mar del Plata, Argentina) scored the game-winner against Bard in the 64th minute off an assist from freshman Brian Hanley (East Islip, NY).  Junior keeper Darian Bryan (Elmont, NY) and the defense put on a show Wednesday, allowing just one shot on goal.

Senior Fabian Santibanez (Oyster Bay, NY) will lead Old Westbury's offensive charge into Farmingdale.  The reigning Skyline Conference Player of the Year tallied 11 goals, 11 assists and 33 points over 18 game in 2009.  Farmingdale State is paced on offensively by junior Ryan Paul (Sayville, NY), who registered 14 goals and 28 points in 15 games this season.

The Panthers own a slight edge over the past two seasons, besting Farmingdale State, 2-1-0, including a win, 2-1 in overtime earlier this season at Rams Field. In that contest, freshman Donnie Alerte (Brooklyn, NY) scored the game-winner to give Old Westbury the win. The Panthers and Rams met last season in the semifinals of the Skyline Conference Tournament, with Farmingdale State coming away victorious, 2-0, in double overtime in 2006.
