OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-The SUNY College at Old
Westbury women's volleyball team (2-8) struggled with their hitting
percentage as they fell to the United States Merchant Marine
Academy (2-2) in five sets. Set scores were 22-25, 25-17,
24-26, 25-20, and 15-5.
It wasn't a pretty game on either side of the net as the
Mariners hit -.066 while the Panthers had a total hitting
percentage of -.021.
Old Westbury's sophomore duo of Kristina Giordano (Huntington
Station, N.Y.) and Tynishia George (Medford, N.Y.) were the
Panthers top scorers for the match. Between the two
sophomores they totaled 62 total attacks. George recorded her
third double-double of the season, recording 11 kills and along
with 14 digs and Giordano had 25 assists and 13 digs to post her
first double-double of the season. Giordano added a
match-high five service aces. Freshman Katrina Zapanta
(Astoria, N.Y.) and Tinamarie French (North Babylon, N.Y.) each
posted a career-high of 17 digs while sophomore Tonya Miller
(Nyack, N.Y.0 registered three solo blocks and three block
assists.
BARUCH NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury
travels to Baruch College on Thursday, Sept. 17 for a
non-conference battle. First serve is slated for 6 p.m.
