OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) - The SUNY College at
Old Westbury women's soccer team dropped its first Skyline
Conference contest of the 2009 season 2-0 to Farmingdale State on
Thursday afternoon in Panther Park. The loss moves Old
Westbury to 2-4-1 overall and 1-1 in Skyline Conference action
while the Rams improve to 6-2-2 and 2-0 in league play.
Old Westbury played aggressively all game, but were outshot
28-6. Farmingdale State held a 10-2 corner advantage.
Freshman Christina Merrill (Levittown, NY) put the Rams on the
board with a score at the 53:28 mark off a pass from senior Tricia
Pickford (Massapequa, NY). Then at 55:14, Merrill set up
sophomore Katrina Cerveriizo (Center Moriches, NY) to double the
advantage, giving Farmingdale State a 2-0 lead.
Panthers senior Jennifer Campisi (Commack, NY) led with two
shots on goal and freshman Jurelis Torres (Ellenville, NY) added
one. Sophomore Julianne Abel (New Hyde Park, NY) and
classmate Cassandra Esposito (Valley Stream, NY) rounded out the
Panthers six shots with one each.
Farmingdale State freshman keeper Maggie Studsrud (Staten
Island, NY) earned the win and recorded three saves. Old
Westbury's sophomore Jennifer Kupfer (Bellmore, NY) registered a
program record 18 saves while allowing two goals.
MOUNT SAINT MARY FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury
travels to Newburgh, New York for a Skyline Conference showdown
with the Blue Knights of Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday
afternoon at the Elaine and William Kaplan Athletic Field.
