PATCHOGUE, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) - The SUNY College at
Old Westbury women's volleyball team dropped a pair of Skyline
Conference matches at the Danzi Center in Patchogue on Saturday
afternoon. Old Westbury fell to the Dolphins of Mount Saint
Vincent College, 3-2 (25-17, 23-25, 14-25, 25-8 and 15-10)
and then to the Blue Knights of Mount Saint Mary College, 3-1
(25-21, 24-26, 25-10 and 26-24). The pair of losses moved Old
Westbury to 4-12 on the season and 0-3 in league play.
In the first match of the day, Old Westbury picked up match
points in the second and third set with a 25023 and 25014 victory,
respectively. After losing the first set 25-17 and rallying to win
the second and third set, Old Westbury dropped the fourth (25-8)
and fifth set (15-10).
As a team, Old Westbury hit .057 from the field with 28 total
kills and 22 errors in 106 attempts. Sophomore Tonya Miller
(Nyack, NY) led the Panthers in hitting percentage in the first
match with five kills and one error in 16 total attacks for a .250
hitting percentage. Sophomore Kristina Giordano (Huntington
Station, NY) finished the Mount Saint Vincent match with 18
assists, while adding eight digs, five kills and four service
aces. Junior Ashley Greene (Bay Shore, NY) added eight
kills. Junior Tanaya Vinson (Woodside, NY) led the team with
11 digs while Tonya Miller added six digs, four solo blocks and two
block assists.
Against Mount Saint Mary, Old Westbury's only point in the match
came in the second set with a 26-24 victory. The Panthers
fell in sets one and three by scores of 25-21 and 25-19,
respectively, and then dropped the fourth set 26-24.
Giordano again led the Panthers win the second match, finishing
with 22 assist, seven kills, six service aces and five digs.
Giordano and Tanaya Vinson led Old Westbury's hitting efforts with
a .412 attack percentage each, while Vinson had eight kills and one
error in 18 total attacks. As a team, Old Westbury hit
.073 for the match with 27 kills and 20 errors in 96 total
attacks. Defensively, Vinson led the Panthers with eight
digs.
