www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury and Purchase College met in the annual “Battle of the Panthers” Saturday in a Skyline Conference showdown on the pitch in Purchase, New York and was exactly that: a battle. OW came out on top with a 1-0 win over Purchase and are now 5-0 since 2004 against the Purchase Panthers. With the win, Old Westbury moves to 12-7 on the year and 7-3 in conference action while Purchase falling to 1-13-2 and 0-9-1, respectively.

Scott Carey flicked a feed to classmate Diego Mercado#, who sent the ball into the back of the net past Purchase goalie David Kurzweil off a header for his third goal of the season. Carey's assist marked his first point of his career.
The score remained at 1-0 despite some close calls throughout the remainder of the match. In all, Old Westbury had a 24-2 shot advantage against Purchase, who was held to just one shot on goal. OW also held the edge in corner kicks, 10-4 while fouls were whistled 11-5 against the visiting Panthers.
In net, Old Westbury's
Darian Bryan posted his third shutout of the season and sixth of his career, making one save in the match while Purchase's David Kurzweil had eight saves.
