www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's volleyball team split a pair of matches versus Skyline Conference opponents Saturday, as the Panthers opening with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-16) sweep over the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins (12-11 Overall, 5-5 Skyline) before dropping a 3-1 (25-22, 25-14, 21-25, 25-17) decision to the host Mount Saint Mary Knights (17-9 Overall, 10-0 Skyline) in Newburgh, New York. The Panthers stand at 20-8 on the season and 7-2 against the Skyline Conference with today's split.
In the opener against Mount Saint Vincent, OW had little trouble cruising past the Dolphins. Kristina Girodano dished out 21 assists and Tanya Vinson served up four aces while
Ashley Greene slammed down seven kills to pace Old Westbury. On the defensive front,
Kimberly Catania led the Panthers with 11 digs followed by
Tonya Miller's 10.
Tonya Miller added one solo block and four blocking assists and Catania registered three blocking assists.
Against Mount Saint Mary, junior setter
Kristina Giordano led the Panthers with 19 assists and 12 digs to combine for her team-leading 11th double-double of the season. She also served up a pair of aces to go with three kills.
Ashley Greene led the Panthers with nine kills, followed by
Tynisha George, who had seven. Freshman
Kimberly Catania chipped in with three aces (team-high) and nine digs while
Tonya Miller added three blocks and two blocking assists.
PURCHASE PANTHERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to action on Wednesday (Oct. 27) for “Senior Day” against the Purchase Panthers in a Skyline Conference showdown at the Clark Athletic Center.
