Marjahna Segers wins her 100th match!

Coach Segers scores milestone 100th win; Panthers sweep tenth match of the season

BRONXVILLE, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's volleyball captured a pair of wins after downing Sarah Lawrence 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-18) followed by Medgar Evers 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-9) Sunday afternoon at the Sarah Lawrence Tri-Match in Bronxville, New York. The Panthers pushed their overall record to 13-5 on the season with the two non-conference victories today, giving seventh year head coach Marjahna Segers her 100th career victory. 

The highlight of the win over Medgar Evers was Marjahna Segers joining Old Westbury's 100-win club.  She became the fourth coach to reach the milestone.

Against Sarah Lawrence, Kristina Giordano posted her fifth double-double of the season using 19 assists and 14 digs to lead the Panthers to victory. Girodano finished with five kills while Tynisha George and Ashley Greene led the way with eight kills each. Ashley Greene served up a team-high four aces and Kimberly Katania chipped in with seven assists.

George added 18 digs, the most since her career high of 20 against Baptist Bible (Aug. 30, 2008) in her third match of her career. Greene and Kimberly Catania each added seven digs while Tonya Miller led the blocking effort with two.

Against Medgar Evers, OW wrapped up the day with their 10 sweep of the season. Ashley Greene served up a team-high 10 aces to pace the offense to tie Kristina Girodano's season-best that was established against New Rochelle (Sept. 12). Tynisha George paced the team with five kills followed by Carlotta Pope, who added four. Kristina Giordano dished out 13 aces and had nine aces to go with 10 digs to notch her sixth double-double of the season. Nancy Apollonio added six digs.

JOHN JAY UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS:
Old Westbury returns to action on Thursday (Oct. 7), taking on the John Jay Bloodhounds at the Clark Athletic Center. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. in Old Westbury, New York.
