NEW YORK, NY (
www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's volleyball team split matches at the first day of the Hunter Invitational Saturday falling to the Elmira Soaring Eagles 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-12) before closing out the day with a 3-1 (25-22, 28-26, 21-25, 27-25) victory over the Montclair State Red Hawks. The Panthers are now 22-9 on the season.
In the loss against Elmira,
Kristina Giordano moved around 12 assists and led the team with six digs and two aces to pace Old Westbury.
Tanaya Vinson added a pair of aces and
Tonya Miller led the way with five kills and three block assists.
In OW's four set victory over Montclair State,
Kristina Giordano dished out 24 assists and finished with 12 digs, five kills and four aces to notch her team-best 13th double-double of the season.
Tonya Miller slammed down a career-best 11 kills to go along with four solo blocks and three blocking assists.
Tynisha George scooped up a team-high 17 digs while
Kimberly Catania (16 digs),
Nancy Apollonio (15 digs) and
Ashley Greene (10 digs) all posted double-digit digs.
Ashley Greene and
Tynisha George added eight kills.
DAY TWO OF HUNTER INVITATIONAL UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to action on Sunday (Oct. 31) for day two of the Hunter Invitational at 11 a.m. at the Hunter Sportsplex in New York, New York.
