Panthers fall to Ramapo before defeating Hunter on day two of Hunter Invitational; Panthers to host Sage for Quarterfinals Wednesday (Nov. 3)

NEW YORK, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's volleyball team defeated the Hunter Hawks in five sets, 3-2 (21-25, 26-24, 25-23, 20-25, 15-12), for their 23rd win over the season in the third place match of the Hunter Invitational. The win tied the program record for wins in a season, originally established in 2006 when the team went 23-15. OW lost 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-8) to the Ramapo Roadrunners in the opening match of day two of the Hunter Invitational and stand at 23-10 on the season.

Against Hunter, Kristina Giordano had as outstanding outing for the Panthers, as she had a season-high 34 assists to go with 14 digs to combine for her 15th double-double of the season. Tynisha George also posted her third double-double of the season, using 18 digs and 12 kills and 18 digs (tied season-high) while Ashley Greene followed with 11 kills. Giordano added seven kills and two service aces. Kimberly Catania passed eight assists and finished with seven kills, 17 digs and five blocking assists. Tonya Miller added nine kills and four blocking assists.

Giordano paced the Panthers with 14 assists, 10 digs and two aces in the three set loss to Ramapo. Tynisha George and Tanaya Vinson led the way with five kills apiece and George added eight digs while Tonya Miller went for two solo blocks and two blocking assists.

SKYLINE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to action on Wednesday (Nov. 3) for the 2010 Skyline Conference Championship Tournament and will host the Sage Gators for the quarterfinal round at the Clark Athletic Center. Panthers and Gators are slated to hit the court at 7 p.m. in Old Westbury, New York.
