Panthers sweep for the 11th time this season to notch non-conference victory

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's volleyball team swept the John Jay Bloodhounds, 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 28-26) Thursday evening in non-conference action at the Clark Athletic Center. The Panthers now sit at 14-5 on the season, with John Jay dropping to 3-16.

OW used a balanced offensive attack with a team total of 34 kills. Leading the charge was Ashley Greene, who slammed home a season-high 14 kills and added four aces (team-high), five digs and a block to her stat line. Tynisha George was next in the box score with seven kills followed by Kimberly Catania and Tanaya Vinson, each adding four.

Defensively, Nancy Apollonio led the way with a career-high 13 digs to go with a pair of aces while Ashley Greene recorded the lone Panther block. Kristina Giordano was close to recording her seventh double-double of the season but fell one dig short after finishing with 21 assists and nine digs.

John Jay, which hit .447 for the match, held the OW offense to a .258 hitting clip. Crystal Reyes paced the Blooodhounds on offense with 13 assists and Martina Hot added five aces. Justyna Kopec sparked the defense with two solo blocks and one block assist while Rocio Chavira tallied seven digs.

SAGE TRI-MATCH UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury will take the court next on Saturday (Oct. 9) for a Skyline Conference tri-match in Troy, New York hosted by the Sage Gators.
