www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team recorded its third straight win by knocking off the visiting Mount Saint Mary Knights 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Panther Park. Freshman
Tana Weekes' goal in the 76th minute proved to be the difference as the Panthers improved to 4-7 on the season and 3-1 in Skyline Conference play, while the Knights fell to 4-5-1 and 2-2, respectively.
Both teams shared control of the ball during the opening 45 minutes, with Mount Saint Mary holding a 13-10 first-half shot advantage. It wasn't until the second-half when Old Westbury broke through for the games only score. Senior
Andrew Puca slotted a pass to
Tana Weekes, who settled it and blew past Mount Saint Mary keeper Matt Darling for the score at 75:33. The goal was his first-career for the freshman, who came off the bench just 10 minutes prior.
OW junior keeper
Pablo Diaz (4-7) notched his second straight clean sheet and third of the season (5th career), tying a personal-best with eight saves. Matt Darling (4-5-1) saved five balls in defeat for Mount Saint Mary.
Overall, the Panthers finished with 16 shots, six on goal with one corner kick.
German Parodis and
Steven Burgos each led the team with three shots. Mount Saint Mary totaled 23 shots, eight on goal and seven corner kicks. Sean Lockwood paced the Knights with seven shots and Brandon Mincher followed with three.
ST. JOSEPH'S-L.I. GOLDEN EAGLES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the pitch for a Skyline Conference showdown on the road, taking on the St. Joseph's-L.I. Golden Eagles on Tuesday (Oct. 4) in Medford, New York. Kick-off is slated for 4 p.m. from Medford Sports Complex.
