MONTCLAIR STATE DROPS WOMEN’S SOCCER, 4-0

Old Westbury’s win streak snapped at four; Farmingdale State up next for Panthers at home on Thursday (Oct. 20)

MONTCLAIR, NJ (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's soccer team suffered a 4-0 defeat to the Montclair State Red Hawks Monday afternoon at MSU Soccer Park in Montclair, New Jersey.  The loss sent Old Westbury to 7-6 on the season while Montclair State improved to 10-4-1. 

The Red Hawks pressured the Panthers in the 25th minute as Montclair State's Francesca Gibson scored her 11th goal of the season on a breakaway past OW keeper Heather Grosso.  The goal set the Red Hawks off to the races en route to their 10th victory of the season.   Montclair State went on to score another goal in the half, when Kaila Fasano scored in the 33rd minute off a Melanie Greco assist. 

Montclair State added two more goals in the second half, two being scored within six minutes apart between the 53rd and 59th minute, courtesy of Kaila Fasano and Alyssa Diacheysn, respectively. 

Old Westbury felt the Montclair State pressure in the first half as the Red Hawks held a 14-0 shot advantage and finished with a 28-2 edge.  The Red Hawks also controlled a 5-1 tally in corner kicks.  Caitlin Thomas made the start for Old Westbury, making three saves in the opening 24 minutes before being relieved by Heather Grosso.  Grosso allowed Montclair State's four goals and made four save in the final 66 minutes.  Gina Policastro made two saves in recording her fourth shutout of the season for Montclair State.   

FARMINGDALE STATE RAMS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the pitch for a Skyline Conference battle at home, taking on the Farmingdale State Rams on Thursday (Oct. 20) in Old Westbury, New York. Kick-off is slated for 4 p.m. from Panther Park
