www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's volleyball hosted the Brooklyn Bulldogs for “Senior Day” at the Clark Athletic Center. Old Westbury defeated Brooklyn 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-18) to improve to 19-14 on the season while Brooklyn fell to 11-12.
Prior to first serve, women's volleyball senior class of 2011 (
Nancy Barahona,
Tynisha George,
Kristina Giordano,
Ashley Greene and
Carlotta Pope) were honored for their dedication to Old Westbury Athletics.
Kristina Giordano joined the 300 ace and 2,000 assist dig clubs as she registered three aces and 27 assists.
Ashley Greene's 11 kills for the match led a balanced Panther attack, as
Ruth Vargas followed with 10 while
Tynisha George nailed down eight. Giordano and
Nancy Apollonio each served up a three aces to lead Old Westbury. Giordano captained the offense with 27 assists while
Ashley Greene, Giordano and Apollonio paced the defense with 12, 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
Carlotta Pope and
Corrine Protasiewicz registered Old Westbury's lone solo blocks while Vargas and
Kimberly Catania chipped in with a pair of blocking assists.
Brooklyn was led by a nine-kill, seven dig and one ace performance by Maritza Morency. Jillian Escobar followed with seven kills and five digs.
Old Westbury came out on top after outhitting Brooklyn .295 to .207 for the match, including .382 to .043 in the opening-set. OW finished with 38 kills, 12 errors and 88 total attacks to go along with nine aces and four blocks. Meanwhile, Brooklyn earned 22 kills, 10 errors and 58 total attacks in addition to five aces. The Panthers scooped up 51 defensive digs, while the Bulldogs collected 27 digs during the match.
