Old Westbury dealt conference losses by Sage and Mount Saint Mary

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's volleyball battled the Sage Gators and Mount Saint Mary Knights at home Saturday afternoon in Skyline Conference action.  Old Westbury fell to Sage 3-1 (19-25, 25-19, 22-25, 21-25) before Mount Saint Mary captured a three set victory (15-25, 23-25, 20-25) over the Panthers.  Old Westbury now stands at 13-10 on the season and 4-4 in conference play. 

In the opening match against Sage, Tynisha George nailed down 15 kills to go along with 10 digs lead Old Westbury.  Ruth Vargas and Kimberly Catania each had nine kills.  Kristina Giordano directed the offense with a career-high 41 assists.  Shakira Canty scooped up a personal best 31 digs. 

Against Mount Saint Mary, Ruth Vargas posted a career-high 12 kills to lead the offensive attack.  Giordano dished out 23 assists while Ashley Greene chipped in with two aces.  Shakira Canty paced the defense with 15 digs, followed by Giordano's 13 and Kimberly Catania's 10.

MEDGAR EVERS COUGARS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the court for a non-conference battle at home against the Medgar Evers Cougars on Thursday (Oct. 13) in Old Westbury, New York.  First serve is slated for 7 p.m. from the Clark Athletic Center.
