WOMEN’S SOCCER FALLS TO MOUNT SAINT MARY IN OPENING ROUND OF ECAC TOURNAMENT

Old Westbury concludes season with 9-9-1 overall record after making third consecutive ECAC appearance

(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's soccer team fell to the Mount Saint Mary Knights, 2-1, in the opening round of the ECAC Metro Region Championship, Wednesday in Newburgh, New York.  With the loss, Old Westbury was eliminated from the ECAC tournament and finishes the season with a 9-9-1 record.  Mount Saint Mary (18-3-1) advances to the semifinals on Saturday at NYU. 

Mount Saint Mary notched the game's first goal just 1:47 into the match. Nicole Gianotti tipped in a rebound past Old Westbury goalie Caitlin Thomas to give the Knights the 1-0 lead.  Mount Saint Mary outshot Old Westbury in the first half, 7-3, and took their 1-0 lead into the half.  Mount Saint Mary struck in the 69th minute when buried a shot past Thomas on a cross from Sara Sheehan.  Old Westbury's Cassandra Esposito scored her final goal of her career as the senior netted an unassisted score past in the 75th minute to cut the deficit down, 2-1.  Moran's goal was all the offense that was needed as Mount Saint Mary advanced to the next round with a 2-1 win. 

The Knights held the advantage in shots (12-7) and corners (9-0) in the game.  Old Westbury's Stephanie Maybie fired four shots on the day while Cassandra Esposito had the other three.  Old Westbury's Caitlin Thomas made four save in the Panther effort.  Thomas' counterpart, Jacquelyn Mancini made one stop for Mount Saint Mary.
