OLD WESTBURY, NY
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's volleyball team won all three matches Saturday as they hosted the Panther Invitational at the Clark Athletic Center. The Panthers swept Maritime (25-10, 25-18, 25-15), defeated Farmingdale State, 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-21, 26-24), and downed Sarah Lawrence in three sets (25-18, 25-13, 25-9). Old Westbury improves to 6-2 on the season and extends its win-streak to five.

Old Westbury opened with a 3-0 victory over Maritime (25-10, 25-18, 25-15). Kristina Giordano led the team with match-highs of 30 assists and 12 digs to notch her first double-double of the year to go along with four kills and two aces. Tynisha George nailed down a game high 11 kills (match-high) on 18 swings (.611 attacking percentage) in addition to seven digs and three aces. Tonya Miller registered five blocks (match-high). Kimberly Catania# finished with eight digs and tied a career-high of seven kills.
After dropping the first game, 25-21 to Farmingdale State, Old Westbury won the next three (25-23, 25-21, 26-24) to record their fourth straight victory over the Rams. Giordano spearheaded the Panthers to victory with 25 assists, six digs to go with four kills and four aces. Tonya Miller had a block party of her own, registering a career-high seven rejections to go with seven kills. Nancy Apollonio tallied a career-high 18 digs (previous high – 15 vs. Montclair State, Oct. 30, 2010) while Tynisha George and Kimberly Catania followed with 11 and 10, respectively.

Old Westbury closed out play with a 25-18, 25-13 and 25-9 sweep over Sarah Lawrence. Kristina Giordano went for 22 assists, 13 aces and five digs.  Giordano's 13 aces were a career-high and was the third time she notched 10 or more aces (12 vs. Maritime – Oct. 10, 2009; 10 vs. New Rochelle – Sept. 12, 2010). Tonya Miller chipped in with a match-high six kills and three blocks. Nancy Apollonio reached double-digit digs for the 10th time of her career, finishing with 10.

Kristina Giordano had 77 assists and 19 aces while Tynisha George went for 20 kills on the day to lead the Panther offense. On the defensive end, Tonya Miller had 15 blocks and Nancy Apollonio finished with 29 digs.

BARUCH BEARCATS UP NEXT FOR OLD WESTBURY: Old Westbury returns to the court for a non-conference battle on the road with the Baruch Bearcats on Thursday (Sept. 15) in New York, New York. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. from the ARC.
