www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's volleyball team fell to NYU-Poly, 3-1, Tuesday night in Brooklyn, New York. The Fighting Blue Jays prevailed by the scores of 25-15, 25-17, 23-25 and 25-19 at Jacobs Gymnasium. The setback moved OW to 8-4 on the season, including 2-1 in conference play while NYU-Poly improved to 10-5 and 3-0, respectively.
NYU-Poly put together a team attack percentage of .269 (49k-13e-134att) while OW combined to hit .016(30k-28e-124att) for the match.
Senior setter
Kristina Giordano assisted on 20 of OW's 30 kills and added four aces. Senior
Ashley Greene hit .280 on 11 kills in 25 swings with just four attack errors. On the defensive front, junior
Nancy Apollonio and sophomore
Kimberly Catania scooped up 13 and 10 digs, respectively. At the net, freshman
Ruth Vargas rejected a career-high three solo blocks.
NYU-Poly was led by Victoria Kalvert's 18 kills and Alexis Walker followed with 10. Kalvert hit .471 on 18 kills in 34 swings, 19 digs, four aces, four assists and 1.5 blocks. Rebecca Eaker finished with 23 digs, on our five Fighting Blue Jays with double-digit digs. Corey Loupee dished out a match-high 32 assists.
MARITIME AND PURCHASE UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the court for a Skyline Conference road battle against Maritime and Purchase in Purchase, New York on Saturday (Sept. 24). Old Westbury opens with Maritime at 10 a.m. followed by Purchase at 12 p.m.
