OLD WESTBURY, NY
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team fell short of its expectations Tuesday evening as the visiting Vassar Brewers scored six second half goals en route to an 8-0 win at Panther Park. The loss moves Old Westbury to 0-3 on the season while Vassar improves to 2-0-1.

Vassar's Dante Varotsis struck a shot past OW goalie Pablo Diaz in the 14th minute of play to break the scoring ice, putting the Brewers ahead, 1-0. Logan Matheny doubled the lead at the 43:03 minute mark to send Vassar into the half with a two goal lead.

In the second half, Juliano Pereira, Dante Varotsis and Eric Geisse all scored goals within the opening four minutes to extend the Vassar lead by five. Sam E. McCarthy, Casey Rice and Robert Torrence added goals before officials stopped play in the 72nd minute to do rainy field conditions.

Pablo Diaz set a career-high with eight saves in Old Westbury's defeat while Ryan Grimme earned the shutout. For the game, Vassar registered 29 shots, 16 on goal, while holding Old Westbury to one. Vassar also held a 3-0 edge in corner kicks.

KING'S LIONS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the pitch for a non-conference battle on the road, taking on the King's Lions on Saturday (Sept. 10) in Wilkes-Bare, Pennsylvania. Kick-off is slated for 3:30 p.m. from McCarthy Stadium.
