STATEN ISLAND, NY
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's soccer team scored first, but ended up dropping a non-conference road match by a score of 3-2 to the Staten Island Dolphins on Wednesday night. JoAnna Kettell and Jordan Schildt scored goals in defeat.

The Panthers dominated possession throughout the first half, and had plenty of scoring opportunities early on, as JoAnna Kettell broke the scoring ice with her first goal of the season at the 2:30 minute mark. Kettell received the assists from Cassandra Esposito and struck a shot past Staten Island goalie Valerie Incontrera. Old Westbury doubled its advantage at 44:40, when Jordan Schildt scored her team-leading second goal of the season off a rebound and put it past Icontrera. Jennifer Kupfer assisted with her first helper of the season.

Old Westbury went into the break holding a 2-0 lead, but it wasn't until the 74th when Staten Island cut the deficit in half. Demi-Jean Martorano stole the ball and finished past Old Westbury keeper Heather Grosso. Staten Island tied the game 6:02 minutes later when Natalie Tombasco received the lead pass from Melisa Gelardi and put it home past Grosso for the score. The Dolphins took their first and final lead of the game 7:12 later when Gelardi found Demi-Jean Martorano up the middle and sent it into the back of the goal, giving Staten Island a 3-2 lead with only 3:15 left on the clock.

Old Westbury outshot Staten Island, 22-14, and recorded four corners to CSI's three. Caitlin Thomas saved three shots and kept a blank sheet in the first half for Old Westbury while Heather Grosso allowed a trio of second half goals and stopped one shot. Valerie Incontrera made seven saves to earn the victory in net for Staten Island.
