Old Westbury fell in straight sets to Mount Saint Mary and Sage

OLD WESTBURY, NY
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's volleyball team dropped a pair of three-set Skyline Conference decisions to Mount Saint Mary (25-3, 25-16, 25-17) and Sage (25-5, 25-16, 25-5) on Saturday afternoon from the Clark Athletic Center.  The pair of losses moves Old Westbury (7-22) to 2-5 in conference play. 

Old Westbury opened with Mount Saint Mary, where Samantha Howley set a career-high with 18 digs.  Howley's previous high was 16 digs on October 10, 2012 against the United States Merchant Marine Academy.  Jennifer Jean and Allie Giacola followed with 12 and 11 digs, respectively.  Jocelyn Small nailed down a team-high four kills followed by Rayn Brown's three.  Mount Saint Mary's Mary Ann Raftery (11 kills) and Lauren Halverson (31 assists) racked up match-highs to lead the Knights to victory.  Raftery added 13 digs to record the double-double.  Mount Saint Mary held the advantage in hitting (.275 to .000), kills (42 to 11), assists (40 to 11), aces (12 to 2) and blocks (3 to 0) while Old Westbury scooped up 60 digs, compared to the Knights' 48. 

Against Sage, Jocelyn Small recorded five kills to lead Old Westbury's offense and Allie Giancola's eight digs paced the defense.  Giancola also tied a career-high with nine assists.  Sage's Joanie Cooney (25 assists), Ciera Holt (7 aces) and Helen Putriment's (9 kills, 18 digs) match-high performances led the way for the Gators.  Sage finished the match with the upper hand over Old Westbury in hitting percentage (.333 to -.096), kills (28 to 10), assists (27 to 10), aces (15 to 1) and digs (41 to 37) while Old Westbury claimed victory in the blocking department, with Rayn Brown tallying the lone rejection of the match. 

NYU-POLY FIGHTING JAYS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the court against the Skyline Conference foe, NYU-Poly Fighting Jays on Tuesday (Oct. 23) in Old Westbury, New York.  First serve is set for 7 p.m. from the Clark Athletic Center.
