WOMEN’S HOOPS CRUISE PAST SAINT ELIZABETH, 85-71

DeAndra Scott’s 10th career double-double leads Old Westbury to road win

MORRISTOWN, NJ (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –Led by DeAndra Scott's 26 points and 15 rebounds, the SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team ran by the Saint Elizabeth Screaming Eagles 85-71 at St. Joseph's Gymnasium Sunday afternoon in non-conference road action.  Old Westbury improved to 3-4 on the season while Saint Elizabeth dropped to 2-5.

Old Westbury grabbed the first-half lead for good when DeAndra Scott converted a three-point play with 17:04 remaining for a 7-5 lead.  Scott's three-point play sparked a 13-3 Panther run from 17:04 to 12:47.  Moments later, Raven Pentz sank a three-pointer to give Old Westbury a 27-14 lead, their largest of the opening half. 
Saint Elizabeth used a 13-2 run over the final 2:48 to knot the game at 37-all at the half.   

Saint Elizabeth's Amerisse Rogers' free-throw 16 seconds into the half gave the Screaming Eagles its first lead since the 17:05 mark in the first-half.  Clarissa Gallagher's three-pointer gave Old Westbury the lead for good with 19:34 remaining.  Old Westbury used an 18-0 run to seal the victory, going up 74-55 from 10:33 to 4:04.  Saint Elizabeth launched a 10-2 comeback attempt, but was too late as Old Westbury led 82-71 with seven seconds left on the game clock.   

Scott's 10th career double-double of 26 points and 15 boards led all players while Gallagher followed with 16 points and Antoinette Jolly pulled down 10 boards.  Pentz tied a career-high with 13 points in addition to nabbing three steals while Jolly finished with nine points, four assists, four steals and two blocks.  Chloe Mellon poured in a career-best 13 points, nine rebounds and five blocks in her first-career start.  Abigail Williams registered three steals off the bench.  

Ashley Pledger recorded 14 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals to pace Saint Elizabeth.  Kelly O'Dell contributed six steals while Amerisse Rogers and Cheyenne Grant scored 11 and 10 points, respectively. 

Old Westbury tied a season-high with 34 turnovers, which were converted into 40 Saint Elizabeth points.  Old Westbury won the boards battle for the third time this season, outrebounding the Screaming Eagles 55-46.  Old Westbury scored 28 second chance points off a season-best 23 offensive rebounds.  Old Westbury held the shooting edge in field-goal (43.9% to 35.1%), three-pointers (31.3% to 22.2%) and free-throws (56.4% to 50%).
     
NEW ROCHELLE BLUE ANGLES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the hardwood for a non-conference road battle on Saturday (Dec. 15) afternoon, taking on the New Rochelle Blue Angels in New Rochelle, New York.  Tip-off is slated for 12 p.m. from the CNR Wellness Center.
