OLD WESTBURY, NY (
www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's volleyball team opened the season with a 1-2 day in a non-conference quad match at home on Saturday from the Clark Athletic Center. Old Westbury fell in straight sets to William Paterson (25-17, 26-24, 25-16), before dropping a five-set heartbreaker to CCNY (25-19, 15-25, 25-19, 22-25, 15-10) and concluded the day with a four-set victory over Brooklyn (25-22, 18-25, 25-22, 25-18).
Against William Paterson,
Allie Giancola and
Jennifer Jean debuted with 17 digs apiece while Jean added seven kills while
Jocelyn Small nailed down nine.
Kimberly Catania dished out a match-high 21 assists and served up Old Westbury's lone ace of the match.
Kimberly Catania posted her second career double-double, combining 25 assists and 20 digs to pace Old Westbury against CCNY.
Jocelyn Small added 10 kills and eight blocks while
Allie Giancola and
Jennifer Jean contributed career-best dig totals of 34 and 31, respectively.
Old Westbury grabbed their first victory of the 2012 campaign with a strong showing against Brooklyn, led by
Kimberly Catania's third career double-double. Catania went for 26 assists (career-high) and 18 digs.
Jocelyn Small and
Jennifer Jean both added nine kills followed by
Fareeda Roushdy's eight.
Allie Giancola went for 23 digs and Jean added 20.
NEW JERSEY CITY GOTHIC KNIGHTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the court for a non-conference battle on the road Wednesday evening, taking on the New Jersey City Gothic Knights in Jersey City, New Jersey. First serve is slated for 7:30 p.m. from the John J. Moore Athletic Center.
