WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL FINISHES TIED FOR SIXTH AT NEW PALTZ HAWKS INVITATIONAL

NEW PALTZ, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's volleyball team finished seventh at the New Paltz Hawks Invitational in New Paltz, New York over the weekend.  Old Westbury is now sitting at 3-9 on the season heading into Wednesday's conference opener at home against St. Joseph's-L.I.

The finish was based on Old Westbury's 1-3 record at the two-day invitational.  Old Westbury split the opening day by starting off with a three-set loss to Oswego State (25-20, 25-22 26-24), followed with a four-set victory over Alfred (25-15, 25-17, 15-25, 25-20).  Old Westbury lost back-to-back three-set matches to Mount Saint Mary (25-18, 25-17, 25-10) and Johnson & Wales (25-21, 25-17, 26-24) to close out play on Saturday.  Clarkson won the invitational for the second consecutive year, posting a 4-0 mark. 

Kimberly Catania posted double-doubles to lead Old Westbury against Oswego State (19 digs, 13 assists, 2 aces) and Alfred (26 assists, 12 digs, 7 kills).  Against Oswego State, Jocelyn Small nailed down eight kills and Rayn Brown served up three aces.  In the win over Alfred, Allie Giancola scooped up 25 digs as Jennifer Jean led the way with 10 kills and six aces (career-high) to go along with 16 digs.  

Rayn Brown led Old Westbury against Mount Saint Mary with six kills, and two aces.  Against Johnson & Wales, Catania's 14 assist/ 12 dig performance was her ninth double-double of the season while Allie Giancola chipped in with 19 digs.

ST. JOSEPH'S-L.I. GOLDEN EAGLES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the court for a Skyline Conference opener at home Wednesday evening, taking on the St. Joseph's-L.I. Golden Eagles in Old Westbury, New York.  First serve is slated for 7 p.m. from the Clark Athletic Center.
