ONEONTA, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's soccer team came out on the wrong side of a tight game Sunday, falling 1-0 to Utica at the Erinn K. Brozman Cup, when the Pioneers scored in the 74th minute. 

Old Westbury came out quick and controlled the opening minutes of the game, but were unable to capitalize.  The first half stats evened out over the course of 45 minutes, with both teams taking five shots.

The pace of play escalated in the second half, with the teams combining for 12 shots over the final 45 minutes.  Utica took three corner kicks in the period, to Old Westbury's one.  Utica's breakthrough came at the 73:19 mark when Samantha Matthews flicked a pass over to Samantha Spohler, who looped a shot into the back of the net past Old Westbury goalkeeper Caitlin Thomas. 

Making only her third career start, Heather Grosso played a scoreless first half in goal for Old Westbury.  In the second half, Caitlin Thomas made six saves for the Panthers.  Utica's Caitlyn Smith had three saves on the day. 
  
NEW JERSEY CITY GOTHIC KNIGHTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the pitch for a non-conference battle on Sunday afternoon, taking on the New Jersey City Gothic Knights in Jersey City, New Jersey.  Kick-off is slated for 4 p.m. from the Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field.
