Old Westbury downed on the road in Skyline Conference opener

NEWBURGH, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –   The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team took a loss in its Skyline Conference opener to Mount Saint Mary, 6-1, Saturday afternoon on the road at Kaplan Field.  The loss moves Old Westbury to 0-9 on the season while Mount Saint Mary evened up at 4-4.

Old Westbury goalkeeper, Marcelo Guardado made six saves on the day.  Scott Carey and Tana Weekes both took two shots while Dan Giorgi, Donny Alerte and Ryan Finnin each took one.  Giorgi scored for the Panthers in the 51st minute, making it a 4-1 game. 

Alex Tolman broke the scoring ice for Mount Saint Mary in the 30th minute and moments later it was Brandon Mincher that doubled the advantage in the 40th minute for a 2-0 lead heading into the half.  Matt Pagan scored twice within 37 seconds for Mount Saint Mary, netting goals in the 49th and 50th minutes to put the Knights up 4-0.  Sean Barton and Sean Lockwood added goals in the 52nd and 56th minutes, respectively. 

Mount Saint Mary outshot Old Westbury, 25-3, including 11-3 on target.  Matt Darling recorded two saves on the day in the win. 

STATEN ISLAND DOLPHINS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the pitch for a non-conference battle on Monday afternoon, taking on the visiting Staten Island Dolphins in Old Westbury, New York.  Kick-off is slated for 4 p.m. from Panther Park.
