www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) – The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team fell 2-1 in a hard-fought double overtime match to the visiting SUNY Potsdam Bears on Saturday afternoon from Panther Park. Old Westbury fell to 0-4 on the season while SUNY Potsdam improved to 2-1.
Old Westbury broke the scoring ice at the 5:02 mark when
DJ Stock slotted a pass to
Michael Mosher, who buried his first career goal for an early 1-0 advantage. Old Westbury goalie
Marcelo Guardado and the Panther defense held SUNY Potsdam scoreless for the first half after recording five saves over the opening 45 minutes.
The Panthers were dealt a major blow in the 85th minute when SUNY Potsdam tied the game with a penalty kick by Eduardo Figueroa to send the game into overtime. In the second overtime, Chris Chiarella redirected a cross from Alex Minsker to win it for SUNY Potsdam at the 103:10 mark.
Potsdam held a 15-11 shot advantage in the game, including a 9-4 edge on target.
Individually,
Tana Weekes paced the OW offensive attack with three shots while
Michael Mosher and
Scott Carey tallied two shots. Eduardo Figueroa led the Bears with three shots, including two on target.
Marcelo Guardado finished with a game-high seven saves while SUNY Potsdam's Jake Gyder made three stops.
PLATTSBURGH STATE CARDINALS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the pitch for a non-conference battle on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference battle, taking on the Plattsburgh State Cardinals in Old Westbury, New York. Kick-off is slated for 12 p.m. from Panther Park.
