Gameday Program

OLD WESTBURY, NY
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's volleyball team lost on Thursday evening to the visiting Hunter Hawks by the set count of 3-1 in a non-conference tilt from the Clark Athletic Center. Hunter, who currently sits in second in the CUNYAC with a 7-1 conference record (12-8 overall) handed the Panthers their 14th loss of the season. Old Westbury's overall record is now 4-14.

The Hawks came out flying in the first two sets, easing past the Panthers by the scores of 25-10 and 25-11. It was also in the first set that both Hunter and Old Westbury recorded their best attacking percentages of the match; .700 for the Hawks and .190 for the Panthers.

In the second set Hunter also enjoyed a .320 attacking percentage compared to Old Westbury's .048.

The third set began with a 7-0 run for Hunter, served up by Kristine Ciurcina. But the Panthers fired back with a 10-1 run of their own, inspired by Jocelyn Small's six aces to put Old Westbury in the lead 15-12. The Panthers would hold on to win the set 25-22 and carry the momentum into the fourth frame.

Small struck again early in the fourth set, with a kill to put Old Westbury up 3-1, but the Hawks again pounced on the Panthers and put the match away with a 24-12 run. The 25-15 set win capped Hunter's 3-1 match victory.

Brianna O'Hagan led the way for the visitors with 12 kills, setting Hunter up for a .327 attacking percentage across all four sets.

For Old Westbury, Kimberly Catania and Jocelyn Small each fired nine kills of their own, despite the Panthers only connecting on .095 percent of their attacks.  Catania also dished out 15 assists to go along with three solo blocks. Small led the Panthers with 10 defensive digs.
