PATCHOGUE, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's soccer lost to the St. Joseph's-L.I. Golden Eagles, 4-0, on Wednesday evening in Skyline Conference action from Danzi Stadium. St. Joseph's-L.I. (7-4) improved to 2-1 in conference play while snapping Old Westbury's (6-4) four-game winning streak, sending the Panthers to 2-1 in conference action.
The Golden Eagles got an early start when Jennifer Martino scored at the 9:11 mark. Jessica Cordano then doubled the Golden Eagles' advantage in the 17th minute to make it a 2-0 game. The Panthers would hold St. Joseph's-L.I. off until 35:07 when Martino tapped in her second goal of the game with the help of Katelyn Chiasera on the assist.
In the second half, St. Joseph's-L.I. scored off an unassisted Chiasera goal in the 88th minute to make a final score of 4-0.
St. Joseph's-L.I. defense stifled the Panther offense all game, keeping Old Westbury out of the shot column until
Lucia Mejia's shot at 17:23 went wide. Old Westbury's best scoring opportunities came late in the second half when
Stephanie Maybie,
Lillian Alvarez and Mejia's shots on target were all stopped by Golden Eagles' keeper Cristina Votta.
Old Westbury held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks. Despite the Panthers being outshot, 18-9,
Caitlin Thomas made six saves, giving her 36 on the season.
