OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team improved its Skyline Conference record to 2-2-1 after a 3-0 victory over the NYU-Poly Fighting Jays (0-9-1, 0-5) on Wednesday afternoon. The victory, which came at Panther Park, also improved the Panthers'  overall record to 6-5-2.
The breakthrough came early for Old Westbury—in the 7th minute, to be exact—when senior DJ Stock posted his first tally of the season. After receiving a through ball from Cody Greene at the top of the box, Stock chipped the ball over the head of the NYU-Poly keeper for a smooth finish.

Old Westbury's second goal came off the foot of Anthony Ippolito, who played a short corner to Adan Cruz-Velasquez before accepting a return ball near the right-side perimeter of the box. The sophomore then pounded home a low, far-side ball that left the keeper no chance to make the save.

For the final mark of the afternoon, Ippolito and Cruz-Velasquez hooked up yet again, but this time it was the former who fed the latter. The two broke free 35 yards out before Ippolito threaded a right-side cross on the ground to Cruz-Velasquez, who finished without a shadow of a doubt.

Keeper Mercelo Guardado saw nine shots fired in his direction, but was only forced to make one save (Old Westbury outshot their opponent 27-9, 8-1 on target). But the clean sheet extended the senior's shutout streak to 311 minutes over parts of four games. Guardado has now had four perfect outings so far this season.

Notable performances came from junior Cody Greene—who provided excellent service from the back line—and freshman Austin Gozley, who did well to shutdown Fighting Jays target man Andres Torres.

MOUNT SAINT VINCENT DOLPHINS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury looks to grab its third-consecutive conference victory when they visit the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins on Saturday (Oct. 12). Kickoff is slated for 7:45 p.m. from Gaelic Field (Manhattan College).
