www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's soccer team saw its 2013 season come to an end in the first round of the ECAC Division III Metro Region Championship Tournament on Wednesday afternoon as it suffered a 5-0 defeat to the No. 3-seeded Kean Cougars in a match played at Kean Alumni Stadium.
The Panthers wrap up a campaign with a program-best 13-9 record.
With the victory, the Cougars (10-6-3) advance to the semifinal round to battle No. 2 Mount Saint Mary on Saturday in Newburgh, New York.
The Cougars took the advantage in the 28th minute of play after Angie Lopez provided the finish on a breakaway feed from Carla Vitola. Lopez's 10th goal of the season was the lone score in the first half as Kean held 17-4 edge in shots.
Kean doubled the advantage when Carly Snyder found the back of the net off a feed from Shelby Wallace to push the lead to 2-0 in the 69th minute.
Kayla Birth delivered a 3-0 lead for Kean in the 79th minute with a strike after receiving a pass into the box from Jordyn Bronsky for her first goal of the season. Birth added her second goal in the 87th minute, assisted by Shannon Pedersen.
Bronsky provided the final margin for the Cougars at the 89:40 mark with a strike after receiving a pass into the box from Jordyn Bronsky for her first goal of the season.
In the end, Old Westbury keeper
Caitlin Thomas made nine saves in goal while her counterparts KC Nunez and Samantha Blair combined to make five stops for the shutout.
Kean held the advantage in shots (35-5) and corners (10-3).
The defeat proved to be the end of an era for three Panther seniors as

Nicole Hallahan each made their final appearance in uniform for Old Westbury.
