@OW_Panthers Women’s Hoops Roll Past SUNY Cobleskill

Old Westbury opened a five-game homestand with a 92-61 rout of the visiting Fighting Tigers


OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team opened its five-game homestand with a 91-62 rout of the visiting SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers on Sunday afternoon from Clark Athletic Center behind a balanced scoring effort that saw five Panthers score in double figures.  Old Westbury improved to 2-3 on the season while preventing the Fighting Tigers from its first win, dropping their record to 0-5.  

Old Westbury took control of the game from the opening tip as Clarissa Gallagher banked in a layup just four seconds into play for the games first points.  The Panthers led the entire game and built up a 23-3 advantage in the opening 7:08 of play.  Old Westbury's lead would swell to as many as 27 before entering halftime ahead, 54-32. 

In the second half, the Panthers would continue to hold SUNY Cobleskill at a double-digit distance, never allowing the Fighting Tigers to come closer than 22 points, while Old Westbury opened its lead to as many as 38 points with a 16-0 run to open the second half with a 70-32 lead. 

DeAndra Scott led the Panthers with a game-high 22 points and was a force inside, sinking 9-of-14 attempts to go along with 10 rebounds.  Jasmine Robinson followed with a career-high 18 points (7-17 FG), four rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocked shots.  Gallagher finished with 17 points (7-9 FG) and had three three-pointers while Raven Pentz scored 13 points and dished out six assists.  Nikki Alexander chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds.  Off the bench, Raven Price scored five points, snared eight rebounds, in addition to recording four assists, one steal and one block in 16 minutes of action. 

Kady Porterfield's 21 points, 11 rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals paced the Fighting Tigers.  Shelby Preston followed with 16 points and Tracee Schiebel went for 10.  

For the game, the Panthers shot 46.3 percent, going 37-of-80 from the floor, while hitting 6-of-13 from three-point territory and 12-of-19 from the line.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 50-48, and converted 23 SUNY Cobleskill turnovers into 22 points.  Old Westbury recorded season highs in points (92), assists (22) and blocks (7).  At the other end, SUNY Cobleskill was held to 25.3 percent shooting overall (21-82 FG), while hitting just 2-of-19 from beyond the arc and 17-of-24 from the foul line (70.8%).  The game featured 36 fouls between the two teams and 43 free throws. 

ST. JOSEPH'S COLLEGE-BROOKYN BEARS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the hardwood on Saturday (December 7) for a non-conference tilt against the visiting St. Joseph's Collge-Brooklyn Bears in Old Westbury, New York.  Tip-off is set for 12 p.m. from Clark Athletic Center.
