OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team registered their second win of the season Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference home match with the Lehman Lightning from Panther Park. Old Westbury improved to 2-2 on the season while Lehman now stands at 2-2.
Adan Cruz-Velasquez potted his second goal of the season in the seventh minute to give the Panthers the early lead. The freshman added a second tally in the 53rd minute to double Old Westbury's edge.
Fullback Dan Giorgi's penalty kick extended the Panthers' advantage in the 65th minute with his first goal of the season. It was the sophomore's third career Old Westbury goal.
Brian Schanel added his first career score with an 87th minute goal to close out the scoring.
Lehman directed eight shots toward Panthers' keeper Marcelo Guardado, but the senior was forced to make only two saves. Guardado picked up his third career clean sheet in the process.
The Panthers' own 28 shots were a season high, and their ability to find the back of the net was the difference maker in the match.
BARUCH BEARCATS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the pitch for a non-conference battle on Monday evening, when they visit the Baruch College Bearcats. Kick-off is slated for 5 p.m. from the Metropolitan Oval.
