OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's volleyball team opened up the 2013 campaign with an impressive 25-9, 25-4, 25-17 sweep over the visiting Medgar Evers Cougars Wednesday evening from the Clark Athletic Center. Old Westbury tagged Medgar Evers with its third loss of the season, moving the Cougars to 1-3.
Old Westbury used a complete team effort by combining to hit .226 with 25 kills on the evening. Kimberly Catania led the way with eight of those while Rayn Brown followed with seven and Jocelyn Small added five to form Old Westbury's force upfront. Catania also served up five aces to lead the way as Brown and Derisma each tacked on four and three, respectively. Allie Giancola dished out eight assists and Samantha Howley and Brown each registered five. Giancola and Howley also contributed defensively by scooping up six and five digs, respectively.
Janiece Hill paced Medgar Evers with three kills while Kalifa Roberta and Naomi Chandler each recoded one ace,
NEW PALTZ HAWKS INVITATIONAL UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the court on Friday for the opening day of the New Paltz Hawks Invitational, when they take on the host Hawks at 4 p.m. followed by the Salisbury Seagulls at 8 p.m. from the Hawk Center.
