www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's soccer team grabbed the early lead and took Ramapo to overtime, but a golden goal by the Roadrunners' Kate Popowych in the first overtime sealed the win, as the Panthers fell, 3-2.
The Panthers took the early lead, 1-0, in the second minute as
JoAnna Kettell sank the ball in the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season. Moments later,
Jordan Schildt buried her first goal of the season in the sixth minute as Kettell registered her 22nd career assist to double Old Westbury's advantage. In the 27th minute,
The Roadrunners cut the deficit in half in the 27th minute when Brittany Mancini found Autumn Herring for her second goal of the season.
Ramapo evened the score at two in the 55th minute as Jamie Towey scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Popowych.
Nearing the end of the first overtime period, Ramapo's Popowych buried the ball into the back of the net at the 98:41 off a Brook Miller feed, the golden goal, as the Roadrunners took the 3-2 victory.
In goal,
Caitlin Thomas made eight saves in the complete game, while Ramapo's Talia Auslin made three saves in the complete game victory.
Emily Winberry and
JoAnna Kettell led the Panthers with four shots, while Herring led the Roadrunners with 15 shots. As a team, Ramapo outshot Old Westbury, 34-7 and held the advantage in corners, 8-0.
