PATCHOGUE, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College of Old Westbury women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to both the St. Joseph's-L.I. Golden Eagles and William Patterson Pioneers on Saturday afternoon from the John A. Danzi Athletic Center. The Panthers lost both matches by identical scores, 3-0, and now fall to 2-6 on the season.
In Old Westbury's opening match, the hosts defeated the Panthers by set scores of 25-11, 25-21, and 25-18. Jocelyn Small recorded a team-high six kills for the Panthers, while Kimberly Catania dished out 13 assists, and Allie Giancola added 11 digs. Heather Ferchland led the Golden Eagles (5-5) with seven kills in the victory.
After taking the first set in convincing fashion, the Golden Eagles found themselves leading, 23-11, in the second. The visitors responded with a ferocious 10-0 spurt, powered by two kills by Small and two service aces by Rayn Brown, to inch closer in the set. St. Joseph's-L.I. won the following two points to take the second set and they ended the match on a 10-3 run to win in straight sets.
Small notched a match-high 11 kills, however, it was not enough, as the Pioneers defeated the Panthers, 3-0, in the nightcap. William Patterson won by set scores of 25-13, 25-17, and 25-11. The Pioneers (7-0) were paced by the trio of Mary Long, Erin Roach, and Amanda Morales, who recorded nine kills each.
Catania registered 17 assists in the match and Samantha Howley added a team-high nine digs. Catania finished with one dig to scoop up her 1,000th of her career.
CCNY BEAVERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to action at home on Tuesday (Sept. 24) when the CCNY Beavers come to town for a non-conference battle. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. from the Clark Athletic Center.
