@OW_Panthers Women’s Soccer ends season with fifth straight Skyline Conference Tournament appearance

Old Westbury concludes its season at 9-8-1 after appearing in Saturday’s opening round of the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament


ALBANY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's soccer team was unable to maintain an early lead Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament, falling 5-1 to the third-seeded Sage Gators in Albany, New York.  With the loss, sixth-seeded Old Westbury wrapped up its season with an overall record of 9-8-1 while Sage (11-4-2) advances to Wednesday's semifinal round at second-seeded Mount Saint Mary.

Old Westbury broke the scoring ice when Michelle Ventimiglia tallied her second assist of the season at 26:50 to find Jordan Schildt for a 1-0 lead.  Schildt's 12th goal of the season leaves her fourth all-time in program history with 20 career scores.  Sage answered with goals in the 28th (Talyor Lynch), 29th (Cassidy Bruen) and 32nd (Jenna Retell) minutes past Old Westbury keeper Caitlin Thomas to take a 3-1 advantage into the half.  At the end of 45 minutes, both teams drew even in shots (10-10) while Old Westbury held a 5-3 mark in corner kicks. 

Sage scored in the 66th minute to take a 4-1 lead on Thomas and the Panthers.  Melissa Muller then took over in Old Westbury's net for the final 19:27 and allowed Savannah Mason's goal at 74:52 to slip past her for a 5-1 final. 

In the end, Old Westbury held the advantage in shots (24-17), shots on goal (13-11) and corner kicks (5-4).  Stephanie Maybie fired eight shots to end her career as Old Westbury's all-time shots leader (398), in addition to points (158), goals (70) and game-winning goals (21). 

Thomas (8-8-1) made five saves for Old Westbury to conclude her four-year career as the Panthers' all-time goalie leader in shutouts (16), victories (34), saves (309), goals against average (2.08), matches played (71), matches started (68) and minutes (5,671:51). 

Sage's Teagan Waddingham (10-4-2) made 12 saves.

The Old Westbury playing careers of Maybie (2011-14), Thomas (2011-14), Schildt (2011-14), Kassandra Franco (2011-14), Jenna Donahue (2013-14) and Emily Winberry (2013-14) concluded on the Albany College of Pharmacy Athletic Field Saturday afternoon.
