Four Panthers score in double figures in Wednesday’s home non-conference win

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team dominated the visiting York Cardinals, winning 80-55, in a non-conference matchup at home from Clark Athletic Center on Wednesday night.  Old Westbury is now even on the season with a 3-3 record, while York dropped to 2-5.
In what started out as a tightly contested first half which saw York take a four-point lead off a 7-0 run with 12:16 remaining, Old Westbury turned things around to hold a 14-point advantage at the half.  Old Westbury used an 18-6 run over the final 6:59 for a commanding 43-29 lead at the break. 

Old Westbury continued its offensive charge, taking a 22-point lead with a 12-4 run over the opening 5:05 of the second half.  York trimmed its deficit to 15 with a 5-0 run before Old Westbury countered with an 8-0 spurt from 12:20 to 8:58 to go back up by 23 points, 63-40.  Then, a 10-5 Panther run from 7:57 to 3:58 gave Old Westbury a 27-point cushion, its largest lead of the game. 

Jasmine Robinson's 19 points led all scorers, while Raven Pentz, Crystal Barnes and Ruth Vargas each followed with 10 points.  Barnes also added career-highs of 13 rebounds, seven blocks and two steals to register her third-straight double-double.  Pentz went for eight assists, six rebounds and one steal while Robinson nabbed three steals.  Clarissa Gallagher grabbed four steals while Chloe Mellon racked up nine rebounds and four blocks.      

Shauncia McClendon's double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds paced York while Stayce Kay Muirhead pulled-down 13 rebounds.  Angelika Ruggiano and Jigcara Grant each swept away three steals while Samantha Bond followed with two. 

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 37.5 percent from the field (33-88), 25 percent from three-point territory (4-16) and 62.5 percent from the free-throw line (10-16) while limiting York to 28.6 percent from the floor (19-73), 23.7 percent from beyond the arc (1-13) and 57.1 percent from the charity stripe (16-28).  Old Westbury also won the boards battle, 60-58, despite allowing 19 second-chance points to York off 30 offensive rebounds.   Old Westbury netted 22 points off 31 Cardinal miscues, in addition to holding the advantage in assists (19-8), blocks (13-3) and steals (12-10).

ST. JOSEPH'S (BROOKLYN) BEARS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the hardwood on Saturday (Dec. 6) for a non-conference road battle against the St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) Bears at 6 p.m. from Frank Carbone Court in Brooklyn, New York.
