OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team kicked off the 2014 season at home with a dramatic 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon from Panther Park.

The Hawks scored the game's first goal at the 12:45 mark of the first half as Alec Johnson connected with Jason Gonzalez.  New Paltz would hold a 12-0 edge in shots to take a 1-0 lead into the half.

Old Westbury tied the game at 58:37 with Dominick Guidice's first-career goal.  The sequence started with Chris Knox sending a corner into the box, which Adan Cruz-Velasquez deflected to Guidice, who used his head to send the ball past Hawk goalie Andres Montoya.

The two teams battled back-and-forth over the next 31:19 until Anthony Echevarria's free kick was received by Gudice's head, and sent into the back of the net for the game-winner at 89:56.

Besides the solid performance from the Old Westbury field players, the Panthers received a tremendous effort from goalie Peter Sicardi.  The junior captain set a career-high with 13 saves to secure the victory.  Montoya did not record a save in the loss for the Hawks.  New Paltz held the advantage in shots (26-4) and corners (9-5).
