Old Westbury opened the Melinda DiGiovanna era Saturday in Morristown, New Jersey

MORRISTOWN, NJ (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's volleyball program opened the 2014 season under first-year head coach Melinda DiGiovanna Saturday afternoon on the road against the Saint Elizabeth Screaming Eagles from Saint Joseph Hall in Morristown, New Jersey.  The Panthers fell in straight sets, 25-13, 25-0 and 26-24, to the Screaming Eagles in Saturday's action against the Panthers. 

The Panthers were led by Rayn Brown, who registered two kills in five swings to hit .400 in addition to serving three aces and scooping up 11 digs.  Brown's 11 digs tied a career-high she set September 13, 2013 against Brooklyn. 

Fareeda Roushdy nailed down a team-best five kills and a match-high two blocks for the Panthers.  Zenia Bonilla added two aces and Olivia O'Keefe chipped in with one.

Nicole Morera served up 11 aces to lead the Screaming Eagles.  Katie Cooper went for eight kills and 10 digs while Lynette Hardy dished out nine assists.

Saint Elizabeth held the edge in aces (21-6), assists (15-3) and hitting percentage (.246 to .024) while the Panthers recorded a pair of blocks.

MEDGAR EVERS COUGARS AND NEW ROCHELLE BLUE ANGELS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury looks to bounce back next Saturday (Sept. 6) when they square off against the Medgar Evers Cougars and New Rochelle Blue Angels in a tri-match in New Rochelle, New York.  Old Westbury opens with Medgar Evers at 1 p.m. followed by New Rochelle at 3 p.m. from The Wellness Center.
