Maybie Continues Scoring Streak for @OW_Panthers Women’s Soccer Against Rutgers-Newark

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's soccer team took its first home loss of the season after falling 2-1 to the visiting Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders on Wednesday afternoon from Panther Park.  The loss moves Old Westbury to 3-2-1 on the season while Rutgers-Newark improved to 4-2-1. 

Stephanie Maybie broke a scoreless tie in the 28th minute, finding the back of the net for the 12th time this season off a feed from Edania Martinez for a 1-0 Panther lead.  Old Westbury took a one-goal advantage into the half despite Rutgers-Newark holding a 12-7 margin in shots. 

Rutgers-Newark broke through at 76:51, when Cristina Estremera's shot deflected off Old Westbury's defense and trickled past Caitlin Thomas for an own goal, knotting the game at 1-1.  Moments later, Thomas saved Paige Lazar's point blank shot, but Lazar then collected the rebound to rattle the back of the open net for the game-winner at 84:08.

Thomas (3-2-1) made a season-high 11 stops in net for the Panthers while Diana Aviles (3-0-0) recorded six saves to earn Rutgers-Newark's victory. 

Maybie recorded eight of Old Westbury's 13 shots, including four of seven shots on goal.  Rutgers-Newark finished the game with 21 shots, 13 on goal and a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks. 
 
MOUNT SAINT MARY KNIGHTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury opens Skyline Conference play on the road Saturday (Sept. 20) against the Mount Saint Mary Knights in Newburgh, New York at 12 p.m. from Kaplan Field.
