OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team claimed its second-consecutive shutout after defeating the visiting Staten Island Dolphins, 2-0, in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon from Panther Park.  With the win, Old Westbury improves to 6-3-0 on the season while sending Staten Island's record to 3-6-0.

Jose Gomez broke a scoreless tie at 24:35 when Oscar Sosa assisted on what proved to be Old Westbury's game-winning goal.  Gomez floated a ball past Staten Island goalie John Gioeli for his first-career goal.  With 53 seconds left in the opening half, Michael Covas doubled Old Westbury's advantage with his second-career goal to make it a 2-0 game.  Alexander Routledge sent a ball into the box for Covas, who then used his head to close out the scoring books.  Old Westbury held the first-half advantage in shots (11-10) and corner kicks (4-2).

Both teams battled back-and-forth over the final 45 minutes with Staten Island outshooting Old Westbury 13-5 and 2-1 in corner kicks. 

In the end, Staten Island held a 23-16 advantage in shots, while Old Westbury owned a 10-7 margin in shots on goal and 5-4 in corner kicks.

Kelvin Rivera (2-0-0) stopped a career-high seven shots to register his second-straight clean sheet performance in net for the Panthers.  Gioeli (3-5-0) made eight saves in defeat for Staten Island.    

MOUNT SAINT MARY KNIGHTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to Skyline Conference action on Saturday (Sept. 27) against the Mount Saint Mary Kngihts from Kaplan Field at 2 p.m. in Newburgh, New York.
