Old Westbury stormed back to win after trailing 2-0 early in the first half

Box Score

BROOKLYN, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - Three different Panthers scored a goal as the SUNY College at Old Westbury men's soccer team posted a furious comeback victory on the road against the John Jay Bloodhounds on Wednesday from Aviator Field, winning 4-3 in overtime.  Old Westbury starts the season with a 2-0 record for the first time since 2009 as John Jay dropped to 0-3 on the young season.

Old Westbury trailed 2-0 early in the first-half and knotted the game in the 36th minute when Dominick Guidice found Alec Sackey in the box for the game-tying goal.  Old Westbury scored its first goal in the 35th minute off an own goal.  At the end of the opening half, John Jay held the edge in shots (7-6) and corners (3-0) with the game tied at 2-2.

After the intermission, Kevin Ojeda scored in the 76th minute off a feed from Angel Velez to give the Panthers the lead.

The scored remained 3-2 until Korede Griffith scored in the final minute of regulation for the Bloodhounds to force the game into overtime.

Anthony Echevarria put the game to rest in overtime by burying a free kick from the top of the box in the 100th minute for his first-career goal.

Goalie Peter Sicardi made a career-best 15 saves in net for the Panthers to improve to 2-0 on the season.  Vitecha Kochaon stopped seven shots in defeat for John Jay.

For the game, Old Westbury was outshot 25-15, 18-11 in shots on goal and 7-3 in corner kicks, but came away with the victory with more quality shots on goal.

MEDGAR EVERS COUGARS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns home on Monday (Sept. 8) for a non-conference matchup against the Medgar Evers Cougars at 4 p.m. from Panther Park.  Old Westbury and Medgar Evers meet for the first time since the 2007 season.
