@OW_Panthers Men’s Basketball offense erupts in victory over Sarah Lawrence

Old Westbury shot a season-best 52.1 percent from the field to win its second-straight game

BRONXVILLE, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team convincingly defeated the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons, 95-44, on Wednesday evening in Skyline Conference action from Campbell Sports Center in Bronxville, New York.  With the victory, the Panthers (2-9) won their second straight game and improve to 2-2 in conference play, while the Gryphons (1-9) drop to 0-4 in league action.

Four Panthers' recorded double-digits in scoring as Mark Gjonlekaj led all scorers with a game-high 21 points (10-15 FG) to go along with seven rebounds.  Reynaldo Walters netted 17 points (2-2 3FG) and nabbed three steals.  Floyd Leroy added 12 points (5-7 FG) in his season debut while Omari Trebuse posted 11 points and four assists.  Lukens Victor blocked two shots and pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds as Jaquan Potter tied a career-high with four steals.
Sarah Lawrence was led by Graham Gilleran's 10 points.

After a tightly contested opening couple of minutes, Old Westbury seized control of the contest.  The Panthers fell behind, 6-5, at the 15:47 mark and in a matter of moments, they went on a 25-8 run to take a 30-14 advantage with a shade over seven minutes left in the first.  During the streak, Walters punctuated Old Westbury's run, scoring eight of his 17 points as the Panthers connected on three triples.  Later in the first, the Panthers doubled their lead to 25 (50-25), capitalized by a Gjonlekaj fast-break layup and a Trebuse three pointer, and took a 51-29 lead into the locker room.

Old Westbury continued their prowess in the second half, as they scored 25 of the game's next 36 points to take a 71-40 advantage with 10:01 remaining.  Sarah Lawrence never got within 30 points the remainder of the contest as the Panthers' stingy defense held the Gryphons at bay, shooting 29.8 percent from the field.

The Panthers had the advantage in all statically categories. Old Westbury connected on a season-best 52.1 percent from the field, scoring 48 points in the paint in comparison to 18 by Sarah Lawrence. The Gryphons committed 23 turnovers which led to 27 points for Old Westbury as the Panthers scored 23 fast break points compared to only two for Sarah Lawrence.  Old Westbury also won the boards battle, 49-36, scoring 18 second-chance points off 16 offensive rebounds.
