@OW_Panthers Men’s Soccer concludes 2015 campaign with conference battle at St. Joseph’s (L.I.)

Seaton Cole scored in the 60th minute to give Old Westbury a 1-0 lead

PATCHOGUE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) Although SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer scored first, the Panthers fell to the rival St. Joseph's (L.I.) Golden Eagles, 2-1, on Wednesday evening in Skyline Conference action from a rainy Danzi Stadium.

As this evening's match marked the season finale, the Panthers conclude 2015 at 5-10-2 overall and 4-4-2 in the conference standings.  The Golden Eagles (9-10-1, 7-2-1 Skyline) earn a first-round bye as the No. 2 seed in the 2015 Skyline Conference Championship Tournament.

St. Joseph's (L.I.) tested Old Westbury goalkeeper Peter Sicardi early as Dan Cheeseman fired wide just 23 seconds into play.  Five minutes later, Sicardi stopped his first of six shots in the opening stanza.  Moments later, Richard Cunzo shot on net to put Old Westbury in the shot column.  Adilson Reyes would add two shots in the opening half for the Panthers.  St. Joseph's (L.I.) led 10-6 in shots at the end of a scoreless first half.

After Golden Eagle goalkeeper Avery Gomez denied Ronald Monge in the 55th minute, Monge answered with a breakaway feed to Seaton Cole in the 60th minute for Old Westbury's 1-0 lead.  St. Joseph's (L.I.) answered 1:51 later with the equalizer by Michael Flynn.  Flynn then doubled the Golden Eagles' advantage 3:39 later with a laser shot from the top of the box to make it a 2-0 game for the game winner in the 65th minute.

From there, St. Joseph's (L.I.) put up seven shots to Old Westbury's two.

For the match, St. Joseph's (L.I.) owned a 22-10 edge in shots, with the Golden Eagles landing 14 shots on goal compared to Old Westbury's four.  The Golden Eagles earned four of the match's five corner kicks.

Gomez made three saves to improve to 9-8-1 on the season for St. Joseph's (L.I.).

Cole led the squad with three shots while four different Panthers landed a shot on goal.

Senior captain Sicardi (5-10-2) made 12 saves in the loss, and capped his career with 238 saves in 39 games in between Old Westbury's sticks.  The Panthers will also graduate seniors Robert Amabile (2015), Richard Cunzo (2014-15), Craig Mannhart (2012-13, 2015) and Brian Schanel (2012-15), while looking to return eight starters next season.
